Beast - Charcoal by KaizokuShojo Beast - Charcoal by KaizokuShojo
Went by Kyle Landry's channel on Youtube and heard this masterful rendition of Alan Menken's wonderful song:  www.youtube.com/watch?v=quukTS…

It inspired me to draw the Beast.  This is probably one of my favourite Disney movies, if not my absolute favourite.  (Although that doesn't say a TON, I'm not a huge Disney fan.  I'm more of a Warner Bros. person.)  That movie had exquisite music, the musical numbers weren't extraneous, and the plot wasn't half bad.  While it was silly for a girl to fall in love with something completely not her species, I didn't like it for the romance anyway.  Belle was, though, at least an intelligent Disney woman overall compared to pretty much all the others I've seen.  She was strong/individualistic without trying to pretend she had tons of testosterone.  XD  So that also helped the movie.
But really the main thing about it is the music.  Awesome stuff.  (I also like the enchanted characters, they were fun.)

Anyway, this was done over the course of a few hours yesterday and to-day.  Fairly rushed.  But charcoal doesn't take too long.  :)  I only used medium and extra soft, as well as charcoal white, charcoal pencils on this.  It's dated yesterday because I signed it yesterday. XD

I like the design of the beast.  It's very clever, very different.

By the way...if you share this on another site? PLEASE, please, link back to me.

Beautiful redition of the Beast:D

I love the B&tB music too. Tale as Old as Time is such a timeless piece of music. One of my favourite Disney songs.

Ha. Q-tips. Apparently they have a ton of great uses except the one they were originally intended for, since they supposedly hurt your eardrums. :D

Beauty and the Beast is my favorite Disney movie, followed closely by The Little Mermaid.

For the most part I've been slowly gathering Disney movies from Goodwill to check them out... I'll get to The Little Mermaid at some point. XD My main incentive is that Alan Menken did the music. And he's awesome.

NICE! I like the choice of blue. It adds a unique touch. Nice charcoal use amidst his hair/fur and all that....

I never liked movies with romance, but I watched this movie a TON when I was a kid. However......Cogsworth scared the living HECK out of me. Pizza Hut had a promotion where they gave a plastic/vinyl hand puppet when you got so much pizza, and the time we got Cogsworth, I just stared sideways at the boxes of pizza at my side......because there on top of the pizza boxes he was taped.....looking at me....waiting to kill......

I HATE THAT INSUFFERABLE CLOCK.

But yes, Belle is a different breed of Disney female. A nice change from brat Ariel, servant Cinderella. However, Jasmine will always be my favorite Disney princess. 8]

Thanks! It was definitely...different to do. XD I'm not really sure why I chose blue.... Oh, now I do. It's because I bent the paper while searching for colours to use, and I was like, "..............well, we'll just get this one out of the way!!!"

Aw, but I like Cogsworth. Mainly because I like his actor, because he was in M*A*S*H and Star Trek TNG, and he always does a great job. XD He was the fat doctor alien in Lilo and Stitch, too.

Yep! I can't really remember Jasmine all that well...I've only seen it MOSTLY through, and not lately... I'll have to rewatch that....

LOL! Good enough. XD

REALLY?! I didn't know he did the scientist guy....I liked that movie sort of...but that skinny alien bugged me. I call him the "drag-alien". XDDDD

OMGSH YOU MUST WATCH ALADDIN. It's Disney-ized of course, but it's really good. Jafar is my favorite Disney villain, and Jasmine my fav princess. And Iago was always one of my fav characters in general. haha.

that is just exquisite. i love it. XD and i didn't know you could do something so amazing so fast either. XD i figured this was at least a few days work... and it's so perfect that if i didn't know you, i'd think it was traced. but i know you so i know there's no chance of that. XD it's just...wowness.

i really like the lighting and shadows. some people tend to...over-do it when it comes to that on the beast. people also over-do the...mm...i guess depth of things? not sure how to describe it... you can tell when you compare the new dvd cover art to the old vhs art, the old is definitely better. my point being, you did it right XD you didn't overdo textures or the thickness of the fur or anything. it's good. XD and the teeny tiny details that make the whole thing that much more real, especially in the fur, are fantastic. i also really like the fact that you didn't stylize it. some characters i feel need to be kept to the integrity of their original designs, and this is one of them.

i also really love the beast's design. and of course that movie has some of the best music ever written in the modern era. :)

XD Thanks.
Charcoal goes quickly, especially if I'm not chatting. Most of my art goes pretty fast...when I'm not otherwise occupied. XD (It would've gone even faster if not for Dorkly and such sites drawing me in....BLAH. XD)

Thanks. :) And yeah, I think I get what you mean. I did put a lot more fuzziness into him than he had in the movie, though. Same basic 'depth' but more noticeable edges.
