Technical Aspects of Piece

It is done on marker paper with inked linework (Pigma Micron pens size 01 and 03) and the hands were coloured with Copic Sketch markers (colours E00, E02, YR00, R02, R27, C3, C5, and blended with 0). The blue background, highlights, text, and 'shine' effect were all done in Photoshop.
There was some difficulty in colouring, since the area was fairly large and I barely use my Copics (since they are rather pricey) but in all the job is fair.
I also found it difficult to draw the hands; I had no reference other than my own, and since I generally need both hands to draw, I could not have a still image from which to work from.
Inspiration for the chosen Verse: it was the one used on Hobby Lobby's mailing for this week, and I found it appropriate for the image.

About the Piece's True Meaning
--------------------------------------------

Obviously the upper hand symbolises Jesus Christ's hand; the wounded area of flesh showing where the nails were driven through. The lower hand symbolises mankind in general.


God longs to draw us close to Himself, but due to our sins we cannot hope to be near to Him. That is why He sent His Son to die. Why did He have to die, though? Because, if a crime is committed, someone has to suffer, and since Christ was blameless, holy, and righteous, He could lay down His life so that if we chose, His payment would absolve our trespasses. Once we accept that payment, we are free to be with God again. Jesus' resurrection is a promise and a sign--a promise that we too shall rise again to be with Him for eternity, and a sign that He is who He said He is, and has all power over death.

Some of you may be thinking, "Is it not narrow-minded to think Jesus is the only way to God?"
But think about that for a moment.
There are many so-called 'gods' and religions. Few have similar doctrines, heavens/paradises, gods, and so on. In fact, in all there must be only one true path to heaven, if it exists (and not all religions have a heaven, as you undoubtedly know).
If you choose to believe that the God of the Bible is the one true Living God, then you must surely believe what He says about Himself, because if you deny what He says you make Him out to be a liar, and that destroys everything He is and makes Him unreal. Jesus said that He is the Way, and that the path to heaven would be narrow and difficult…but His salvation is wonderful and extremely simple.
Because of His shed blood, even the most godless, wicked, detestable, perverted person can be saved. All that you must do is confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, repent of your sins and follow Him, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead. There is nothing else so simple with such amazing and wonderful results. Just believe, repent, and follow, and you shall have eternal life. It doesn't matter what you have done or what your background is--Paul, for example, imprisoned and killed the early Christians until he met the Lord on the road to Damascus and was saved, afterwards becoming one of the greatest Christians ever in many people's opinions. The Lord wants all to be saved. We don’t have to pray toward Jerusalem three times a day, we don’t have to put a big cross in our yard, we don’t have to clap our hands and sing in tongues. Indeed, the things we are required to do are simple: we must love the Lord our God with all our heart, mind, and soul (which does mean following His word and refraining from sin), love our neighbours as ourselves, and tell everyone about God and His salvation.

Why should He do all this? And why should you? He isn’t doing all of this because He’s tyrannical or something; He created you and loves you profoundly, giving of Himself to ensure the best for you. You were created by a Being who only wants you to love Him, BUT, He does not force you to do so—because, what kind of love is it that is forced? It’s not love at all.
Your very life rests in His hands. He gives you the marvels of nature, friendship, intelligence, warmth, light, and all good things to make you happy, whether you love Him or not. It is not so difficult to love Him in return when you are loved so immensely by Him.

Some people avoid Him because they do not want to leave the sins they live in. Some are complacent, or let things like lust, greed, materialism, etc. stand in their way. Some people are afraid to go to church because they fear they will be judged. Some people do not go because of the hypocrites (though if you look about yourself, there are more hypocrites in the world than in the church).
Whatever your reason for not choosing to follow God, address it. It is too large of a gamble to fail to do so. If you deny Him and I follow Him, and we die, one of two things can happen: you can be right or I can. If you’re right, no one wins, and life has ceased. If I’m right, I gain everything and you lose all.

Do not be ashamed to bring your sins before Him. He knows them all anyway, and still loves you (for you can love someone, and yet not approve of what they do). To show you that He still loves you regardless of your sin, He gave His Son while you were still in sin—in fact, before you were even born!—so that your sins may be cleansed.


Praise Him, all peoples of the earth, the Holy and Righteous King of Kings! Come, Lord Jesus. We await Thee with hearts overflowing with praise.

Remember, my friends, to stay in His word daily and to always advance in your walk with God. Move forward; never be complacent. Seek His will always.
